Of all the types of body scrubs, I usually prefer sugar ones, so Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub really interested me. And here is my review of it.
Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Scrub claims and ingredients
Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Body Scrub combines moisturising plant oils that nourish skin with ground coffee beans and brown sugar crystals to exfoliate.
Scrub gently sweeps away dead cells and moisturises without damaging the skin barrier or increasing skin sensitivity. All these are thanks to the nourishing almond milk, antioxidant-rich coffee, as well as passion fruit and marula oils. The product noticeably softens the skin, gives radiance and has a rich sweet aroma.
Ingredients list: Sucrose, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Coconut Alkanes, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Laurate, Silica, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Seed Oil, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sweet Almond Oil Polyglyceryl-6 Esters, Sorbitan Oleate, Water/Aqua/Eau
The exfoliating base of the scrub is made up of granulated brown sugar and ground coffee, while the moisturising and nourishing base consist of coconut, sunflower, sweet almond, coffee seeds, jojoba, baobab seeds, watermelon seeds, marula seeds and passion fruit oils. These ingredients help soften and nourish the skin, smooth it and improve texture, reduce redness, and protect against free radicals.
And because Drunk Elephant describes itself as being the “clean” brand, the scrub does not contain essential oils, drying alcohols, chemical fragrances, and dyes.
Packaging and texture
Scrub packaging looks and feels very cheap, which came as a surprise to me because usually, Drunk Elephant uses high-quality containers for its products. The jar is made of plastic and has a screw lid which is never fully closed because it doesn’t get into the thread. And you need to keep the jar tightly closed so that the product does not dry out, as often happens to sugar and salt scrubs.
The texture didn’t meet my expectations either. In the official pictures, the scrub looks thick and smooth, with a pasty consistency. However, the texture of Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Body Scrub turned out to be sandy and dry and not very easy to use. As a result, you just waste the product because most of it falls off into the bath when the scrub is being applied to the body. Plus, it smells a little weird. I expected it would have a sweet coffee aroma, but instead this product has bitter almond notes I didn’t like at all.
But the most “interesting” feature of this product is that it leaves blue-green spots on the bathtub surface if you don’t wash off all the sugar crystals completely which is sometimes difficult to do since some of them are almost invisible. These spots are easily removed with water, but this is the first time I’ve seen a cosmetic product do anything like this.
How to use and my impressions
I usually use body scrubs twice a week, after which I sometimes apply a self-tanner so it is important for me that the product thoroughly removes dead skin cells without irritating.
And I have to say that the Drunk Elephant Sugared Koffie Almond Milk Body Scrub is great for evening out the skin texture, nourishing, moisturising, softening and making skin velvety to the touch. This is the type of scrubs, after which you may skip applying the body lotion because it gives enough moisturizing and nourishing. However, some sugar crystals here are rough, so sometimes the product can scratch the skin.
And though it is a very effective exfoliator, it left me disappointed because its dry texture, non-pleasant aroma, poor packaging and the fact that the product stains the bathtub make me wanna avoid the scrub in the future.
